A pendant light is a fixture that illuminates a room from above and sets the tone of the decor: over a table, in a living room, entryway, kitchen, or bedroom. Globe, bell, cluster, rattan, bamboo, industrial, or Scandinavian: find the pendant light that matches your interior and the size of your room. All our pendant lights are covered by a 2-year warranty, with free returns within 30 days and shipping within 72 hours.

Why choose a pendant light?

  • Central, diffused light. Fixed to the ceiling, it illuminates the entire room from above, or a specific area such as a table.
  • It sets the tone of the decor. Due to its size and material, it is often the first thing people notice.
  • It adjusts to your room. With a cord or adjustable chain model, you can choose the height based on your ceiling and how the room is used.
  • It adapts to all styles. Rattan, bamboo, black metal, glass, wood, fabric: there is something for every interior and budget.
  • It creates the atmosphere. With a dimmable bulb, you can switch from bright light to soft light depending on the time of day.

Pendant light, chandelier, or ceiling light: what's the difference?

A pendant light hangs from the ceiling by a cord, rod, or chain, often with a single shade or shape. A chandelier is more ornamental, with multiple arms or bulbs, and sometimes crystals. A ceiling light is fixed directly to the ceiling: it is flatter, making it suitable for low ceilings. A wall light, meanwhile, is fixed to the wall and provides additional or ambient lighting.

Which pendant light for which room?

  • Living room: all styles are allowed. Choose a model that matches the style of the room (industrial, Scandinavian, natural, or modern) and a size appropriate to the area. One large pendant light in the center, or several smaller ones spread throughout the room, provides balanced lighting.
  • Dining room: place it directly above the table, with a size proportional to the table. A 3-light pendant, globe, or cluster model makes a striking statement. If the living room and dining room are in the same space, coordinate them through material or finish.
  • Kitchen: prefer metal, glass, or plastic, which are easy to clean. Avoid fabric, rattan, and bamboo near the stove and sink, as they absorb grease and moisture. A bell-shaped or industrial pendant light works well above an island or table.
  • Bedroom: opt for soft lighting with a fabric, bamboo, or rattan pendant light. Avoid placing it directly above the headboard so you are not dazzled upon waking.
  • Entryway: a small or medium model, such as a metal cord-hung, Scandinavian, or natural-material pendant light, so as not to clutter an already busy space. Make sure it cannot be bumped as you pass by.
  • Child's bedroom: soft lighting, a lightweight model, a playful shape if you wish, and a very secure mounting out of reach.

Which pendant light suits your style?

  • Industrial pendant light: matte black metal, chrome, or distressed finish, with an exposed bulb. If you like contrast, choose a black model with a gold interior. It works in both lofts and living rooms with wooden decor.
  • Scandinavian pendant light: light wood and a white or light shade for a Nordic, minimalist, and bright atmosphere.
  • Rattan pendant light: the texture and openwork of rattan warm up the room and softly filter the light. Ideal for living rooms, dining rooms, or bedrooms.
  • Bamboo pendant light: lightweight and natural, it creates a warm and soothing atmosphere.
  • Globe pendant light: a simple, timeless shape that suits almost any interior, alone or in a cluster.
  • Bell pendant light: a silhouette reminiscent of bistro or chic country style, highly popular above an island or table.
  • Cluster pendant light: several elements grouped together for a decorative effect, very popular above a table or in a stairwell.
  • Colored glass pendant light: for a touch of color and character in a living room or dining room.

One tip: look around the room before choosing, and repeat a material or shade already present (the wood of the table, the metal of the handles). Stick to two or three finishes to keep the room harmonious, and avoid, for example, a rattan pendant light in an industrial-style room. Browse the selection above to find the style that suits you.

What size pendant light, and at what height?

Room Recommended size Mounting height Temperature Lumens per m²
Room under 10 m² Diameter of 30 to 40 cm At least 2.10 m below the light fixture in a passageway 2700 to 3000 K 100 to 200
Room of 10 to 20 m² Diameter of 40 to 50 cm At least 2.10 m below the light fixture in a passageway 2700 to 3000 K 150 to 300
Room over 20 m² Diameter of 50 cm or more At least 2.10 m below the light fixture in a passageway 2700 to 3000 K 150 to 300
Above a dining table 1/2 to 2/3 of the table's width Bottom of the pendant light 75 to 85 cm above the table (ceiling height of 2.40 to 2.50 m) 2700 to 3000 K 150 to 300
Kitchen (island, countertop) Depending on the island, often several models lined up 75 to 85 cm above the island 3000 to 4000 K 300 to 500
Bedroom Moderate size At least 2.10 m above the floor 2700 K, dimmable 100 to 200
Entryway, hallway Small or medium model At least 2.10 m above the floor 2700 to 3000 K 100 to 150

If your ceiling is over 2.50 m, raise the pendant light by approximately 10 cm for every additional 30 cm. For a large table, allow for several pendant lights spaced approximately 60 to 80 cm apart. These are indicative guidelines, to be adapted to your room.

Bulb, lumens, and wattage

  • The socket. E27 (large socket, the most common) or E14 (small socket). The reference is indicated on the product sheet.
  • The maximum wattage. It is indicated on the pendant light and on the product sheet: never exceed it, especially if the model has several bulbs.
  • The lumens. Multiply the room's area by the lumens per m² in the table, then distribute between the bulbs. Example: a 20 m² living room at 200 lm/m² requires 4,000 lumens.
  • The color temperature. Warm white (2700 to 3000 K) for relaxation, neutral white (4000 K) for the kitchen, work, or reading.
  • Integrated LED or replaceable bulb. An integrated LED requires no maintenance, but the pendant light itself must be replaced at the end of its life. An E27 or E14 socket lets you choose the shape, shade, and wattage.

Dimmer: to vary the intensity, you need a dimmable bulb and a compatible dimmer. An ordinary dimmer changes the intensity, not the shade: to also change the color of the light, choose a model with adjustable temperature or a remote control.

Installing a pendant light safely

  1. Turn off the power at the circuit breaker.
  2. Check the mounting: the hook or ceiling mounting point must be able to support the weight of the pendant light (indicated on the product sheet).
  3. Adjust the height if the cord or chain is adjustable.
  4. Connect the wires (phase, neutral, ground if necessary) with a terminal block or connector.
  5. Secure the mounting plate, install the bulbs, then restore the power.

A large pendant light is often handled by two people. At the slightest doubt about the mounting or wiring, call an electrician.

Maintenance

Unplug before cleaning. Dust the fabric, rattan, and bamboo with a dry cloth or soft brush, and avoid moisture. Glass and metal are cleaned with a slightly damp cloth, then dried thoroughly. In the kitchen, regular cleaning prevents the accumulation of grease.

Frequently asked questions

At what height should a pendant light be hung above a table?

The bottom of the pendant light is generally placed 75 to 85 cm above the table, for a ceiling height of 2.40 to 2.50 m. Raise it by approximately 10 cm for every additional 30 cm of ceiling height.

What size pendant light should I choose?

Above a table, aim for 1/2 to 2/3 of its width. In a room, allow for a diameter of 30 to 40 cm under 10 m², 40 to 50 cm up to 20 m², and 50 cm or more beyond that.

How many pendant lights above a table?

A single large pendant light suits a round or square table. For a long table, several identical pendant lights, spaced approximately 60 to 80 cm apart, distribute the light better.

Which pendant light should I choose for a kitchen?

Metal, glass, or plastic, which are easy to clean. Avoid fabric, rattan, and bamboo near the stove and sink.

Which bulb for a pendant light?

Check the socket (E27 or E14) and the maximum wattage indicated on the pendant light. Choose warm white (2700 to 3000 K) for relaxation, and a dimmable bulb if you want to vary the atmosphere.

What warranty and timeframes?

Our light fixtures are covered by a 2-year warranty, we ship within 72 hours, and you can return your order within 30 days, without conditions, at our expense.
