The era when industrial-style lighting flourished in factories influenced many creators, writers, and especially workers throughout the 20th century, to the point that many artists still use them today! Nevertheless, the trend has opened up to the general public, including you. And that is also why we at Lumiine love this rustic style, rich in all kinds of metals and full of history. We are helping you rediscover it today, so you can choose the industrial desk lamp perfectly suited to your workspace.
Why choose an industrial desk lamp for comfort at work?
Beyond aesthetics, a well-chosen industrial desk lamp is above all an ergonomic tool. Poor lighting at the workstation is one of the leading causes of eye strain during prolonged sessions in front of a screen or working with paper documents. Here are a few practical tips for choosing your lighting before buying an industrial desk lamp:
Always place your lamp on the opposite side of your dominant hand to prevent your own shadow from obstructing your view while writing.
Opt for a model with an articulated arm and swivel shade—a real asset of industrial desk lamps, allowing you to direct the beam precisely toward your work area without glaring in the rest of the room.
Choose neutral to cool light (4000-5000K) during the day to reproduce natural clarity and promote concentration, rather than overly warm light, which can make you feel drowsy.
A dimmer (dimmable) allows you to adjust the lighting according to the time of day and protect your eyes during prolonged sessions.
These are exactly the reasons why the industrial desk lamp remains as functional as it is aesthetic—far from being a mere decorative object.
What metal for an industrial desk lamp?
This is probably one of the first choices to make before buying an industrial lamp for your desk. You can opt for a vintage lamp with distressed finishes that are sometimes tinged with rust. We are thinking in particular of old tripod lamps in natural wood, in the style of 1940s cinema, topped with an aged brass shade. There are also models with a metal stem featuring a tungsten filament bulb—purely decorative today, as they are 100% LED.
You can also opt for a modern model with retro inspiration, which reproduces past styles with black or gray lacquered metal. Contemporary designers offer, within our collection, industrial desk lamps with an articulated shape, reproducing period styles with a variety of metals—from nickel to wrought iron, and stainless steel.
The shapes of an industrial desk lamp
The most classic shape remains the table lamp with a round shade, timeless in its minimalist design and rustic style typical of the industrial era. Its round shape diffuses general lighting over a radius of 100 to 150 degrees—the number of lumens then varies depending on the bulb chosen. Lamps with cylindrical or tubular metal shades are also very common on desks, for more directional lighting.
Finally, metal pendant lights, ceiling lights, and wall lights offer warm atmospheres and immerse you in a bygone era that is constantly coming back into fashion, to illuminate your workspace with character! If you are ready to buy your industrial desk lamp, browse our complete collection now
