Bathroom wall lights: Functional brightness that must suit the atmosphere!
Among the rooms in the house, the bathroom has become, over the decades, a space enhanced in terms of décor, where we like to spend time....or not! But some people like to take hot baths for dozens of minutes, while others also like to get ready and apply makeup for long periods. That is why it is so important to have lighting suited to the way you use this fully-fledged living space!
Whether you are looking for wall lights recessed on the sides of your mirror or along the top edge, we have a wide range of options in stock to meet your design and brightness requirements.
What type of wall light is best for a bathroom?
First, you should choose a type of light fixture suited to the period style of your bathroom. Based on this criterion, you can choose a model that harmonizes with the décor of this wellness space.
For a Japanese bathroom: A bamboo wall light is an obvious choice! Whether in the form of a recessed spotlight or a lantern, it is the ideal material for this style. Brown wood is also a good compromise.
For a Scandinavian bathroom: We immediately think of clean colors such as white glass or anthracite gray. Bathrooms in this style also feature subtle gold accents on the edges, contrasting with black finishes on the frame of a mirror, for example. A beautiful wooden wall light adds a natural touch to this understated atmosphere, reminiscent of the forests of northern Europe.
For an industrial-style bathroom: Metal or black marble, with natural wood accents, are common! A modern bathroom that creates a retro-vintage atmosphere is stunning! It should be paired with a designer metal wall light that matches this old-fashioned charm. If you want to break up the dark look, you can choose a rust color, which will add an authentic touch! Or a chrome metal model, to give it a light and sparkling look.
For a modern bathroom: A modern bathroom will be beautifully decorated with all types of materials, especially acrylic plastic accents (which can mimic wood) or polycarbonate (to imitate metal). Simple white models with a small LED bulb are suitable for illuminating the mirror and are easy to clean. Fabric models, such as polyester, can also be installed to create a softer atmosphere if needed. This material is also highly resistant to water, unlike other textiles.
How should I light my bathroom?
Any light source in the bathroom used to illuminate the mirror must meet these 4 points:
- Precise, even lighting: To avoid shadows, it is important to distribute the light evenly around the mirror. Among other things, the light should illuminate your face evenly and proportionally, without your eyes or eyelashes being overexposed or, conversely, cast in shadow compared to your chin, for example. Wall lights on each side of the mirror, or an LED bulb with a shade directed toward the mirror frame, will provide well-distributed supplementary lighting. This will allow you to get ready with precision.
- A suitable color temperature: The color of the light plays a central role. To recreate the appearance of natural light, a color temperature of around 4000 to 5000 Kelvin is ideal, as it illuminates the mirror with neutral white light close to daylight. Lighting that is too yellow can distort the perception of colors, making makeup or a quality shave more difficult.
- Sufficient light intensity: The brightness of the mirror should be optimized to illuminate your face without dazzling or distracting you. A fluorescent wall light above the mirror, with an intensity of around 500 to 800 lumens, is generally best for this area. Some mirrors even offer dimmable options, allowing you to adjust the brightness of a lamp according to your needs, such as for applying makeup or creating a more relaxing atmosphere for a nice hot bath in the evening.
- Proper positioning to prevent reflections: The direction of the light beams is important: As soon as they are switched on, they should be directed toward the face without creating reflections or glare in the mirror. For this, options such as articulated arm wall lights and adjustable spotlights are good purchases.
Don't forget that for bathroom lighting, just like an outdoor wall light, IP44 (splash-proof) and IP65 (immersion-proof) standards are mandatory.
