A pendant light that will brighten your child's life!

Children, especially toddlers, spend a great deal of time in their bedrooms playing or sleeping. The choice of a pendant light will be all the more important, as the light source must offer several advantages so that your child can fully thrive in their new cocoon. In this article, we will help you make the best possible choice for your baby from all the designer lights we offer in our early-years range.

Among all the rooms in the house, the decoration of a child's bedroom is the one that should be carefully considered before hanging a light fixture, especially in terms of safety. The living room, dining room, and loft are largely spared by this type of questioning, which means that you might tend not to take all aspects into account at the time. Ceiling light, wall light, or table lamp, every lamp model must be carefully considered in advance, and for several reasons!

Properly preparing the installation of a pendant light in a child's bedroom

You will need to ensure in advance:

- The lighting: Children have even more fragile retinas than adults. Do not dazzle them by choosing an LED light that emits too intense a luminous flux. Also avoid clear glass pendant lights, which diffuse white light even more throughout the room. The only two exceptions to all this are models with a tinted glass bulb, and/or a colored globe pendant light, or even one made of broken glass, so that the brightness is not too disruptive for falling asleep. Otherwise, you can opt for indirect lighting.

- The ceiling height: As the child grows, their curiosity constantly drives them to explore, but this must not compromise their safety. Depending on the ceiling height of your little one's bedroom, consider installing a flush-mount ceiling light (i.e., without a pendant) if the ceiling height is quite low. A wired pendant light, such as a small bedroom chandelier, may be suitable if the height is sufficient.

- Check the condition of the electrical wires: There must be no exposed wires, the bulb must not be too close to the floor, and you must ensure that the circuit is protected by a residual current circuit breaker.

- Check the solidity of the mounting: It is necessary to ensure that the base is securely in place to prevent it from falling if the child starts throwing objects at it. Preferably opt for a small model.

Which shape of child's pendant light to choose?

The baby's bedroom is the first place where their creativity will get started. And a designer light fixture, with its shine and general lighting, will spark curiosity and attract your little one's attention. It is also the time to introduce them to the beauty and diversity of the world! We offer pendant lights in the shape of an airplane, teddy bear, rabbit, owl, or stars. The globe shape is also very popular! These are highly sought-after styles in children's bedrooms. In addition to decorating their room, these models will encourage them to develop their curiosity and spark their desire to explore. You can vary the styles and decorations with a mushroom-shaped bedside lamp that changes color via a built-in dimmer. All these visual elements make interior lighting not only decorative and illuminating, but also playful!

Materials to prefer for a baby and child pendant light

The choice of materials is also important. Feel free to browse our online selection; we have a wide variety of models in stock for interiors designed for very young children!

Polycarbonate plastic: Its advantages are numerous. It is both shatterproof and lightweight, making it ideal to fix without risking putting real pressure on the ceiling. It is also easy for you parents to clean. In a room for toddlers, you will easily be able to find chandeliers and pendant models in various colors, even with stickers!

Fabric: Visually soft, it is a type of light fixture that comes in different designs to create a cozy atmosphere. Also, if it were to fall, its lightness and flexibility would greatly limit the risk of injury. Another advantage of fabric pendant lights for children? They dampen noise!

Wood: Whether rattan or bamboo, typical of Scandinavian or Japanese styles depending on the color (from beige to dark brown). It is a modern type of pendant light that children and adults alike will love for the natural and rustic charm this material exudes!

Materials to avoid for children's lamps and light fixtures

Metal: We recommend it for slightly older children. Metal, whatever it may be (aluminum, brass, nickel, bronze...), is likely to cause injuries in the event of a fall. Although they are very elegant when turned on, their heavy structure makes them potentially dangerous, in addition to the risk of rust. Metal is also a very good conductor of electricity, especially if a socket for a screw-in bulb is built-in. It is therefore advisable not to place it too close to children.

A paper pendant light: Very specific to toddlers' bedrooms, it has the obvious advantages of lightness and design versatility. This type of wired lamp can be personalized according to your child!

Glass pendant lights should also be avoided, for obvious reasons.

The impact of light fixtures on children's emotions:

You probably know this, but when a baby falls asleep and wakes up in the middle of the night, they may experience a certain form of anxiety because of what darkness causes, often until sometimes 4 or 5 years old. It is therefore advisable to prepare the installation of a dimmable bulb light fixture of the nightlight type. This can be adjusted either automatically or via a remote control, lowering the number of lumens and watts as the child falls asleep. This technology is a great help in managing their emotions.

You can also turn it on more quickly if your child wakes you up in the middle of the night, via a remote switch!

Here are some suggestions and tips on lighting for toddlers

- Warm light (2700-3000K): promotes calm and sleep. It is also called "soft light". One of the most popular models in this regard is the flower pendant light.

- White light (4000-5000K): stimulates alertness and activity.

- Multi-colored light: develops creativity (pastel colors, beige, white, red, yellow, blue, pink...) with a beautiful multicolored accent. This can be in the form of a neon strip or a lamp with a built-in dimmer.

Designers and light fixture creators have not forgotten the baby's bedroom, as you can see! Their safety is just as important as the design. Bedside lamp or pendant light, electrical wire or accessibility, nothing should be left to chance so that your child can enjoy their new accessory in complete safety!
