Ceiling spotlight

Ce ceiling spotlight: a must-have in modern interior design!

Recessed ceiling spotlights have been in fashion for decades now. They take up no space and provide a subtle lighting atmosphere with very low energy consumption thanks to their LED bulbs.

Unlike a recessed floor spotlight, a ceiling spotlight has an even wider beam angle, and you can use one in any room!

A ceiling light is inherently a stylish decorative piece that also offers a long service life! So choosing these small recessed LED lights is an excellent idea.

How many spotlights per square metre?

In a living room or dining room, general lighting should provide around 200 lux. Therefore, if you choose an LED bulb emitting 800 lumens, divide 200 by 800, which means 1 spotlight for every 4 m² (0.25 spotlight per square metre). The calculation is the same as for a pendant light or a wall light.

Next comes the choice of bulb type. A model with a dimmer will allow you to vary the light intensity and colour temperature. Depending on the desired atmosphere, you can switch from a neutral white light for working to a yellow brightness (warm white).

How to arrange ceiling spotlights

Regarding the beam angle, you can start with a narrow angle of 10 to 30°, which is perfect for highlighting a specific area, such as a piece of furniture or a workspace. If you want to create general lighting throughout the room, choose a row of track spotlights or a row of spotlights with a beam angle of 60 to over 120°.

In the kitchen, if you want to illuminate the worktop or hob, for example, choose a wall spotlight or a ceiling spotlight with a beam angle of 20 to 40°. Choose adjustable models if possible.

For an outdoor spotlight, you can choose a row of decorative mini spotlights with a motion sensor to save electricity, and position them with a 180° beam angle to illuminate all areas under the veranda, for example.

How to choose ceiling spotlights

How to choose your small ceiling light spotlights with the desired light output. For example, 40-watt models are used when you want to highlight an architectural style or decorative object.

You can also choose them with a lampshade that suits the room's atmosphere, such as a metal lampshade if your living room has a strong industrial style. Or a natural oak or rattan lampshade if you have a Scandinavian style.

How to install recessed ceiling spotlights

Recessed ceiling spotlights enhance your interior by multiplying the number of light sources.

- Using a tape measure and pencil, mark the recessed points for your new spotlights.

- Next, use a drill and place the drill bit in the recessed point. We recommend using a pencil to draw the diameter of the ceiling spotlight on the plaster ceiling.

- Next, cut out the corresponding circles using a saw.

- Turn off the power supply before connecting the spotlights.

- Important! If glass wool insulation is located just above your black spotlight or any other colour, maintain the safety gap between your ceiling light and the insulation to prevent any risk of fire. Some spotlights come with a transformer that operates at a very low voltage of around 12 volts.

- For installing recessed spotlights in a bathroom or outdoors, we also offer glass bulbs with an IP65 sealing rating from our wide range, to prevent damage from moisture.
